About Andy
I'm a doctoral researcher at Oxford focused on political and economic behavior. I am also the editor in chief at The Decision Lab, where I've helped more than 100 writers and behavioral science experts polish and publish their thoughts. I've taught or co-taught courses in behavioral economics, political economy, public policy, and academic writing — and, having graded hundreds of essays, have an eye for how to simplify and improve students' written work.

Having instructed high school students and phd candidates, native speakers and ESL students alike, I am quite adaptable to the needs of the particular student. I know that writing is often a source of frustration, particularly in the case of admissions essays, cover letters, and other self-focused topics — but also for long-form projects like research papers and dissertations. In my experience, the best method to improve your writing (it's not the standard "just write!", though that does of course help) is to talk through what you intend to say before you begin. My expertise is in helping students connect with their creativity, mine their ideas, and formulate a structured plan before a word has been written.
