For those requested to audition via Skype or self-tape, we can arrange Skype calls ourselves to rehearse safely.
I believe that working in a relaxed environment with detail, creativity and clarity allows actors to produce their best work. I strive to always be positive, honest and constructive as the work develops, making sure you have total ownership over your work and that you are well prepared for auditions, both for the speeches and interview skills.
The lessons will take place either in a studio space in Clapham North or at my home in New Cross Gate.
Classes are available in 1, 1.5 & 2 hour sessions - I can cater to your needs and we can decide how much time we think we need at various stages of the process.
I graduated from Rose Bruford in 2004, but began my professional acting career when I was 14. Since graduating I have developed my acting, directing and tutoring careers alongside each other & I have been teaching & directing in Drama Schools such as Italia Conti (BA Acting), Drama Centre & Fourth Monkey for over 10 years and have a strong grasp on what the schools are looking for from audition applicants. I have helped many young actors gain entrance to Drama Schools including RADA, LAMDA & Royal Welsh amongst others. I can tailor my classes around your needs and requirements whether that involves Drama School application, LAMDA exams or professional audition preparation. As an actor I have worked extensively in theatre and TV and use this experience to keep my teaching methods up to date.
I offer an initial free 30 minute meeting for me to understand your needs and discuss speech choices etc - and then we can begin the work straight away in our first full session without wasting any time! The initial meeting can be done over the phone if this is useful.

Perfect! Richard has taught me in various capacities over the last two years. His professionalism and passion for what he does is second to none. His warm approach sets a non-judgemental tone that gives the work a creative space to develop. What's more, Richard takes an interest in really getting to know his students. Personally, he has helped me to see what it is that sets me apart from the crowd and encouraged me to hone in on that individuality. Working with Richard has been a joy and an inspiration and I would highly recommend him.
Richard's careful, detailed and tailored approach to the work is both nurturing and inspiring. He engenders in his actors a sense of ownership and confidence that is dearly needed in actor training.
George Ryan, UK Voice and Text coach
I have known Richard for several years as a colleague at Italia Conti School of Acting. As an actor himself, Richard has the ideal combination of experience and empathy which makes him a superb coach. He is thorough, detailed, straightforward and kind. I can heartily recommend him as a tutor.
Richard has worked for me at Drama Centre London on a number of occasions and has been an excellent tutor. He brings his professional acting experience to his teaching which helps the students develop their skills. He is passionate about his subject and is always adapting how he teaches to suit the student or group. He has a broad knowledge of theatre and encourages students to find a fresh perspective of classical work.
Richard is a professional actor for the stage and screen and has over 10 years of teaching experience. He has worked for such Companies as Propeller and has appeared on screen in 'The Same Sky' and has a recurring role in 'The Spanish Princess. He has taught acting technique and has directed many productions both classical and modern in well respected conservatoire training institutions, including The Sam Wanamaker Festival for the past 5 years at Shakespeare's Globe. This wealth of experience makes Richard a highly skilled master teacher of acting with many teaching techniques and strategies to help his students. Having been a colleague of Richard's for the past 10 years I can say that he is insightful, imaginative and clear in his teaching process and is never afraid to think outside the box but there is never any cruelty in his manner, he teaches with complete kindness and empathy for the actors process. If I were to go back into acting I would go to Richard for a class at the drop of a hat!
I recruited Richard a number of years ago to teach at a drama school I was working at. Richard taught contemporary scene study. He is a wonderful teacher and acting coach - well-prepared, clear, patient and creative. I would recommend Richard to anyone seeking to work with a talented acting professional who has extensive teaching experience.
Richard was my tutor/director on various projects at Italia Conti Drama School on the BA Acting course, including scene studies and acting exercises.
His observations and attention to detail really helped me to hone my own personal acting technique and his ability to ask the right questions encouraged me to keep making new discoveries with each character.
His enthusiasm and passion for each project made the process even more enjoyable and exciting.
A wonderful mentor!
Richard taught me and directed me while I was at drama school. I highly recommend him because he’s very thorough and detailed and never misses a single beat. He really knows what he is talking about in regards to both stage and screen. He’s also really lovely and easy to talk to which is always a plus!
