About Kaila
I am a professional director, writer, performer, and producer. My speciality is classic text and poetry in movement, but I also work in classic and contemporary realism and film.
Directing credits include: apokalupsis (an original surrealist play), A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Guerilla Shakespeare (a Shakespeare soliloquy web series).
I have conservatory style acting training from the University of Southern California, where I graduated summa cum laude.

Having been in casting rooms as a director, I know what directors are looking for. Having been an actor for 18 years, I can coach monologues for auditions as well as regular scenework to keep your acting chops fresh.
Typical lesson:
1. Personalized warm up
2. You bring text to work on, and we workshop it with notes tailored to your learning and acting style!
3. Reflection on the work and next steps/homework for next lesson
Testimonial: "Kaila is a director who actively listens to their actors, while guiding them to stretch their imagination for their work to reach a new, more accessible and connected place. There is an efficiency when Kaila has ideas- they know how to reach into their toolbox and find what works for each actor and each piece of material. Kaila also knows how to evoke the tone of a scene or monologue that honors the writer and the work overall, but does so in a way that gives actors a vivid image or physical gesture to play with first. I always felt like an equal when I worked with Kaila- they listened to and incorporated my ideas, while imagining the character’s life with me. As a director, Kaila is down-to-earth, caring, playful, and intelligent: an actor’s dream!”
