I am a passionate and committed music teacher with over ten years of experience teaching at all levels. I draw on my career as a professional freelance orchestral violinist, and training to post-graduate level, to teach my students the technical skills, musical knowledge and performance skills they need to become confident musicians with a love for all kinds of music. Above all my teaching philosophy is to nurture and encourage interests and abilities, tailored to each individual student.
I have a decade of experience teaching the violin, music theory and musicianship. During this time I have taught privately and in a number of schools.
I am a freelance violinist and play regularly with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester. I also play with many of the orchestras in the region and in London, including the BBC Philharmonic, the Manchester Camerata, the Liverpool Philharmonic, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Some of my students have learned the violin as a rewarding personal project in order to play favourite pieces to family and friends, or to join community orchestras, others have aimed for violin and music theory examinations (for examination boards such as ABRSM and Trinity), and others have taken a serious technical approach with a career in classical music in mind.
My teaching methods involve goal setting and problem solving in a structured step by step process to enable my students to discover and express their own musical ideas with confidence. In my lessons you would expect to build technical foundations to be able to play increasingly complex music, (including getting around the violin with ease and comfort, sight-reading, building a strong sense of rhythm and pitch), foster your own interest and enjoyment of music, and develop a knowledge of music theory to more deeply appreciate and understand the music we play.
I also provide assistance with concert and exam preparation, including performance anxiety and nerves.
I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) Certificate.

I hold a Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where I studied with violin pedagogue Professor Goetz Richter. I then moved to Manchester where I completed a Master of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music with soloist and chamber musician, Gina McCormack. My studies then took me to Birmingham where I completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Orchestral studies with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
