About Gillian

I'm a New Zealander, born in New Zealand and I live here in Auckland.
I have taught English in several countries as well as here in New Zealand in both Wellington and Auckland.
I have had a CELTA for many years and 30 years experience teaching to students of all levels.
I love teaching English and I get a lot of personal satisfaction from seeing my students progress through the stages of learning the language and becoming more confident in their communication.

About the lesson

I am a certified and experienced teacher of English as a foreign language. I've been teaching for a number of years both in New Zealand and in overseas countries. I love my job and being able to help students to speak, understand, read and write my native language. I have a CELTA and use various methods depending on what suits the student. We cover the 4 modules: speaking, reading, listening and writing. I have specialised in training students for the IELTS, Cambridge Advanced and TOEFL tests in later years and also beginners to advanced. I also do ESP (English for special purpose) lessons for specific industries e.g. medical, banking, oil.
I prefer to teach adults however I am also happy to teach teenagers.

Perfect! Gillian is an incredibly friendly, supportive and dedicated teacher. She has helped me improve not only my spoken English, but also my understanding of New Zealand society and culture by sharing her knowledge and personal insights.

She has also been incredibly supportive during my job search and interview preparation, always willing to share advice and help me build my confidence.

Gillian is not only a professional and excellent English teacher, but also someone I see as a mentor in life. I’m very grateful for all her help and encouragement.

When I came to New Zealand, I took a few English classes, but I didn’t see much improvement. Then I found a class with Gillian, and everything changed for me. She made such a big impact that I even followed her to other classes, even when they were at different institutes, because she’s the best teacher I’ve ever had. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her in my life.
She’s not only an amazing teacher but also so friendly and supportive. She made me feel less alone in a new country and helped me build my confidence—not just in improving my English, but in myself as a whole.
Gillian truly is the best!
