Mrs Nutwood is a family friend and has recently tutored my son for the Maths 2023 Key Stage Two SATs. After 5 lessons he came top of boys in his class. He is all set now to do really well in his Maths SATs having got over 90% in recent papers. Mrs Nutwood is very experienced and understands where children are going wrong, and so can put them on the right track. She is extremely professional and patient.

We initially worked with Julia to help our daughter catch up with work from missed classes due to lock downs etc. As Julia had further knowledge, a great teaching style and had built a good rapport with our daughter we further engaged her to tutor for the Grammar School Entrance exams (11+). I can recommend Julia as a tutor - she's been on-time, well prepared and a great help to our daughter.

Julia has high standards of teaching. I know her through our children that were in the same year in primary school. She offered to tutor my daughter when she found out that she was falling behind in maths. She taught her all year 6 and even did a mock exam just before her SATs keeping the same conditions as the real test. My daughter went on to have a B in maths on her SATs. Julia tutored my son in maths when he was in primary school but was struggling with the subject. Her approach and attitude were fantastic. She didn’t just start off covering the maths curriculum for his year group. Instead, she took Jack right back to basics to establish exactly what he knew and what the gaps in his knowledge were and then planned his tutoring accordingly. Julia worked around Jack’s obvious lapses in concentration and broke the topic down into bite-sized chunks. Jack sometimes struggled to understand what he was being taught. Julia always said that, if children didn’t understand, it was never their fault and that it was her responsibility to find a different way to approach the subject. For example, when Jack couldn’t tell the time, rather than just teaching him the theory, Julia brought in a physical clock with hands that could move. She adapts her teaching/communication style to suit the individual but was always patient, calm & understanding. Jack made excellent progress with her. This is especially significant given that he had undiagnosed ADHD at the time.
