I recently graduated from the University of San Diego, receiving a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I tortured both there and the University of Redlands; I have three years of experience with college and high school-age students. I'm a very relaxed tutor; I only push the student if it feels safe. My typical lesson plan starts with an explanation from the student about the subjects he is learning and the difficulty it causes him/her/it. Then, the student attempts some problems, and we review what causes the difficulty. I then explain the subject differently to relieve the student of that difficulty. I use a lot of graphing tools to showcase mathematical ideas visually.
