About Robert
Robert received his Bachelors Degree, with Honors, in political science, in
1991, and graduated summa cum laude from law school in 1995. He spent the next 18 years appearing in courtrooms all across California, questioning witnesses, presenting highly regarded written legal analysis, and making oral arguments to advocate for his clients. As an
undergraduate and as a law student Robert was chosen by administrators and faculty to tutor other students, particularly those students at high risk of being academically dismissed. Robert was also invited to be a teaching assistant to tenured faculty at both schools, providing supplemental lectures to assist
students with their understanding of the core materials. As an attorney he has created and presented Mandatory Continuing Legal Education classes to other lawyers.

My goal in teaching is to give students the tools to understand, not memorize. We discuss events and cases in historical context, contemporaneous events, and even personality of the actors and the policies they promoted, to come to know not just what happened, but why it happened, and how. We will use original sources, scholarly analysis, including video and also music, to develop a full appreciation and understanding of the events we examine. A good lawyer, or historian, or politician wants to be able to take these precedents, and apply the rules that come from them, to a new set of facts that no one has ever seen before, and accurately predict the outcome.
Direct lectures, Socratic dialogue, free-flowing seminar discussions, and one-on-one conversations all have a role to play in this process
