I teach by walking through the math problems together. For example, we will start off with a simple and easy problem and then work our way up to more complex and time consuming problems.
I like to start all my lessons by explaining the basics and the vocabulary to give a better understanding of the concepts. Then we will look at our first problem, I will explain what it’s asking and what we need to do to find the solution. Next, we’ll walk through the problem, making sure to discuss the important steps and vocabulary. We will work our way up to harder problems once I can see you are understanding the concepts. Finally, I will give one problem for them to work on by themselves and then I will summarize what we went over. I plan to help the student understand that math can be fun and doesn’t have to be hard.
