About Mo
I hold an MSc in Computing Science from Simon Fraser University, with a thesis on hardware acceleration for stateful event stream processing, and a first-author paper currently under review at a top computer architecture conference. Before that, I completed a Bachelor of Computer Engineering in Iran.
Teaching has run alongside both degrees. I've held ten teaching assistant appointments at SFU and eleven more during my undergraduate degree, across computer systems, data structures, algorithms, and discrete mathematics. That means I'm not tutoring from memory of a course I took once. I've graded these exact assignments, held office hours for these exact courses, and watched students work through the same material term after term.
I genuinely enjoy this part of the work. The moment a concept clicks for you, the "Aha!", is the literal reason I keep teaching.

My approach starts with finding exactly where a concept breaks down for a specific student rather than re-explaining the whole topic from the top. I've graded and proctored these exact courses at SFU, so I know the specific problems students get stuck on year after year, not just the general subject.
A typical session starts with whatever you're actually stuck on: an assignment problem, a proof, a piece of code that isn't compiling. We work through it together, then I connect it back to the underlying concept so the next problem like it doesn't stump you again.
What sets me apart is repetition at scale. For instance, I've been a TA for CMPT295 across six different terms, so I've seen the same misunderstandings surface again and again and I know which explanation actually lands.
These lessons are for university students in computer science and math: intro programming, data structures, algorithms, computer systems and architecture, discrete math, calculus, and linear algebra, at the level taught at SFU and UBC.
