About Leah
I began to learn American Sign Language (ASL) when I was about 9 years old through someone who had a Deaf friend. A group of us went into the community over the next several years using ASL in song form. During high school, ASL was my foreign language, while still continuing to participate in (and teach) the Sign Choir. My ASL teacher went to Barton College and shared career opportunities with me. I received an associate's degree in Interpreting from Wilson Community College, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from The University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2017. I began my professional career in 2015 as a community interpreter, while also helping teach teens ASL in music for national competitions. Present day, I work in the school system as an interpreter, and specialize in working with low language students.

I have encountered so many people over the years that have discussed with me how they have always wanted to learn sign language, but never got around to it. Today’s the day! I would love to be a part of your journey to help make your dream become a reality. I am an extremely laid-back person. There is no stupid question. I love using Sign Language in music, working with kids and their families, and teaching conversational signs. Let me know what your goals are, and let’s begin to sign!
