About Madeline
I graduated Humber's music program in 2020 with a Bachelor in Music with Honours. My main instrument is trumpet, and on the side I sing and play guitar.
I began writing music when I was thirteen, and since then I've written professionally for television, orchestras, theatre, various jazz ensembles, and more. In college I was a theory and ear training tutor to first- and second-year music students, and have been able to help bring up all my students' grades by at least 10%.
For a year, I worked as an assistant engineer at Gordon Wragg Recording Studios, where I operated Pro Tools and set up recording equipment such as microphones, DIs, amps, Aviom mixers, and more. I also worked for a year as a stage manager and was responsible for setting up and tearing down equipment.
Currently, I'm a musician in the Canadian Armed Forces, where I perform in and arrange for various ensembles including the concert band, jazz band, and marching band.
I also run a blog called Swiss Army Musician, which shares weekly advice articles to help aspiring songwriters develop their craft.

Perfect! Madeline is very knowledgeable and has well-structured classes. Every lesson is informative and practical. She is pleasant to work with and always provides constructive feedback.
Perfect! Madeline is a truly fantastic jazz theory teacher. I'm an advanced piano student who’s trained in classical piano and that's been playing for over 20 years. I came in searching for a tutor that might be able to help me to both learn how to play jazz, and strengthen my understanding of music theory knowledge through the lens of this new genre, as that was never my forte. It’s always been magical to me how jazz musicians could have such fluent command in their understanding of music that they can conjure new ideas via improv on the spot.
I am so glad I ended up going with Madeline. Her experience has been a direct match to what I was looking for. She is able to adapt her teaching to acommodate your level and interests, and she is very knowledgeable and well-versed in her area of expertise. I’ve thrown random curiosities at her so many times, and each time, she met them with immediate understanding, followed by a detailed answer.
Although we don’t play the same instrument, I’ve been able to learn a lot from her. And due to her experiences both playing solo and with an ensemble, her knowledge really extends beyond just that of the trumpet, and she’s really been able to provide me with a holistic view of things.
As a teacher, she is also caring and on top of things. You honestly can’t go wrong learning from her. She has made music theory fun for me, and that’s not something my younger self would’ve ever thought could be possible.- Madeline's response :

Madeline was great in helping me understand theory. Always patient, never made me feel dumb because I was slow to catch on, and really knows her stuff! If I couldn’t understand a concept, I wasn’t worried. I knew Madeline could help. I highly recommend her tutoring!
