If something does not work, I’ll try another approach that highlights learning styles. Hands on learning, short lessons, encouragement at every level, patience and rewards at each level as needed. A typical approach to spelling is to break the word down into smaller words within the larger words at the elementary level. Hand signals for short vowels give a student a multi sensory approach to sounds. Writing words in sand or rice does much the same.
