The Lost Backpack : A short story for young English learners (Level: Beginner–Intermediate, Ages 8–11)
Tom looked everywhere. Under his bed. Behind the door. Inside the closet. His backpack was gone!
"Mom, have you seen my backpack?" Tom asked. "Did you check the kitchen?" Mom said. Tom ran to the kitchen. No backpack. He checked the garden. No backpack. He checked his sister's room. She said, "Get out, Tom!" Finally, Tom sat down on the sofa. He felt very sad. Then... he felt something soft under him. He stood up and looked. It was his backpack! It was under the sofa the whole time. "Found it!" Tom shouted happily.
New Words:
1. backpack — a bag you carry on your back
2. Everywhere — in all places finally —
3. After a long time shouted — said something loudly
