About Daniel

I'm Daniel, an 1800-rated CFC club player from Ontario. I've also worked at a chess training platform, so I've spent a lot of time thinking about how players actually improve.

I remember being stuck around 1000 and losing games without understanding why. What helped me was reviewing my own games and fixing one habit at a time, and that's exactly how I coach.

I'm patient and I keep things simple. I'd rather ask you questions than lecture, because I want you to understand why a move is good, not just memorize it.

About the lesson

My lessons are for beginners and improving players up to about 1400, both adults and kids. Most players at this level lose the same way: hanging pieces, missed tactics, and not knowing what to study next.
Every lesson follows a simple structure:

1. Game review: we go through a game you played that week and find where it went wrong.

2. One theme: we focus on your biggest mistake pattern, such as forks and pins, opening principles or basic endgames.

3. Practice: puzzles and positions on that theme, where you explain your moves.

4.Homework: three specific things to work on before next time.

New students start with a short assessment, so the lessons match your level, from complete beginner to 1400. Lessons are online with a shared board and video call. Your first 30-minute session is free.
