About Sue
I have thirty years' experience in education, including teaching, teacher training (training colleges and running teacher professional development sessions in schools), advising and creating resources for high school teachers. Because I'm so busy with my website ((concealed information) and teacher training, I'm no longer in the classroom, but I miss it terribly! Because of this I've set up my own part-time classroom from my gorgeous studio in Tauranga. I strongly believe that tutoring in person is best, but am happy to help seniors online. PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT offer the first lesson free, however I am more than happy to meet for 10-15 minutes in person/online before you make your decision. Sue :)

I get straight to the key must-knows before we move on from these non-negotiables to extend our skills. This means learning is scaffolded - taking one step at a time, beginning from where you're at, to ensure you're confident before we move on to more complex writing and reading (analysis and critical thinking) skills. The aim is to find the sticking points, smooth them over and have you boosting through to next levels - more confident and much happier with your learning. We'll guide each other, working as a team - your needs and worries, my skills and tools - to get you to a point where you can move through your schooling without a tutor! :)

I worked alongside Sue at an education company overseas, where she served as an English Advisor. Sue is an incredibly dedicated educator who consistently goes above and beyond to ensure her students reach their full potential. Her ability to tailor her teaching methods to get the best out of every individual is remarkable. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor who is both highly skilled and genuinely invested in student success.
I had the best three-year professional development session ever because I got to work with Sue as part of an advisory team in an education reform in the UAE. Her curriculum, pedagogy and everyday classroom knowledge is extensive, invaluable and practical. What makes her such an amazing practitioner is her ability to bridge the gap between complex concepts and student understanding. She helps students develop confidence and capability through careful and purposeful scaffolding. She has a unique gift for breaking down daunting tasks into manageable, logical steps that build student confidence without overwhelming them. I really appreciate the way that she develops learners with the tools they need to become independent. In her current work, Sue helps teachers make learning more meaningful and accessible for their students. I cannot recommend Sue highly enough to students (or teachers) looking to grow their skills.
I worked with Sue for several years and saw first-hand how she works with students. She brings a lot of energy to her teaching and sets high expectations, encouraging students to take pride in their work and aim higher.
Sue is supportive and genuinely invested in helping students improve. Her teaching of literacy skills is outstanding. She has a clear understanding of how to build students’ reading and writing skills, and has created quality literacy resources to support her students. Students working with Sue build confidence and develop strategies for improving their literacy and exam performance.
I would highly recommend Sue as a tutor. Students working with her will benefit from her experience and enthusiasm for helping them succeed.Sue is a fabulous teacher. She has brilliant resources and is great at tailoring her teaching to meet individual students’ needs. She explains the bigger picture behind English exceptionally well, which helps students’ wider understanding. Her teaching is intentional, precise, and thoughtful. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and truly knows her stuff!
