About Alyssa
I have eight years’ experience in graduate level writing, and three years’ experience with developmental editing and thesis/dissertation project management. I’ve completed eight years of my own graduate work, and supported university students with their writing as a teaching assistant. I also worked one-on-one with dozens of students from a variety of programs as the coordinator of Writing Services at Carleton University in Ottawa, ON.

Many academic programs ask students to write, but fail to teach them how to turn an idea into an essay. You're left to figure out the concepts and the mechanics of essay writing — no wonder it’s hard to keep up! In addition, many professors and other university resources refuse to help with essay development until you can provide a draft. However, often the first draft is where you are stuck!
I can help, even if all you have right now is a half-baked idea. I help students locate themselves in the writing process, and share evidence-based approaches to overcoming challenges they're likely to experience at each stage. I can help you develop your work using proven techniques to manage emotions around research and writing, and find ways to organize your research and ideas to relay your message to your professor with clarity and precision.
