About Suzanne
- What kind of experience do you have?
I began teaching piano at the age of 14 and therefore have 20+ years experience of working with people to achieve their musical goals, whether that is in examinations or in learning for pleasure. I have a 100% success rate in entering students for piano, theory and organ exams. I am happy working with students across a wide age range, from 3 years to those in their eighties. I have taught piano and theory in both state and public schools alongside private practice. In addition to working with those who wish to learn solely for enjoyment and those who are very bright and musically gifted, I also have experience in teaching students with additional needs such as autism, blindness, learning difficulty and hearing impaired. I welcome students across the ability spectrum and am equally enthused by working with people who pick things up very quickly as those who require a more measured and versatile approach.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Enhanced DBS clearance 2016
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied the piano with Wendy Bailey, Professor Arthur Hailey, Anthony Sycamore and Diana Kalantarova.
I studied the organ with Jack Burns, Gary Sieling, David Goode, Keith Wright, James Lancelot.

I am a qualified and intuitive piano, organ and theory teacher with 20+ years experience who offers fun and productive lessons both to those seeking advancement through music examinations and those learning for pleasure and relaxation.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano from beginner to grade 8, and similarly with the pipe organ and music theory. I also offer aural test preparation and sight-reading skills development to other instrumentalists looking to fine tune their skills before examinations. In addition I offer piano accompaniment to singers or other instrumentalists for exams and concerts.

I hold a BA (Hons) in Music from the University of Durham (1999) in which I was awarded the highest marks given for a music performance final degree recital.
- How much do you charge?
For each discipline I charge:
£25 for 60 minutes
£20 for 45 minutes
£15 for 30 minutes
- Where do you teach?
I live in Kilhallon, near Par and offer lessons both in my home and in the student's own home. I cover Par, Tywardreath, Fowey, Golant and other villages around Par. If in doubt please get in touch.
- When are you available?
I am available for tuition on weekdays and at weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have experience of teaching all ages from 3 years to those in their 90s. I welcome absolute beginners, those wishing to sit music exams and people wishing to learn for their own pleasure.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
The exam board that I use most is the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). I'm also happy to prepare students for Trinity Guildhall exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe that the single most important thing that I can do each time we have a session is to meet the you at the point you have reached musically at the start of that lesson. I want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible in order to create an environment in which you feel able to ask questions, try things out, make mistakes and then produce playing to the best of your ability. All lessons are tailored specifically for your current needs, strengths and weaknesses in order to ensure that you make solid and rewarding progress and enjoy yourself too!
