About Tom
Since 1983, I have given private tuition mainly to 16-19 year-olds, studying GCSE English Language and Literature, and 'A' Level English Literature. My techniques and methods are informal, and designed to
encourage students to think for themselves, and to respond to my questions or tasks in an
independent way. I have taught more students than I can specifically count, but these have been from a range of social backgrounds. Most of my them have improved their grades considerably in connection with the tuition I have given them, and have expressed the view that they feel more comfortable with the subject than they had previously.

I give lessons at GSCE and 'A' level to students mainly in the 16-19 age group, and from all kinds of social and educational backgrounds. I never begin tuition with pre-conceived ideas about how much the student knows, and always proceed empirically and informally, seeking to set the student at ease and encouraging him/ her to be spontaneous in response, and to think independently. Lesson structure is always built around specific tasks, and encouragement is also given to the student to do his/ her best.
I undertake to give each student the fullest attention in his/her aim to achieve good grades at whatever level s/he is studying.
