About Alexio
My training bridges two artistic traditions: classical fine art and professional comic book illustration. From 2005–2008, I studied at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art under accomplished artists including Andy and Adam Kubert, June Brigman, Fernando Ruiz, and Swamp Thing inker Tim DeMulder.
From 2014–2016, I became the final apprentice of master painter James Childs, studying the Bargue Drawing Course and Impressionist color theory. Childs was a student of R. H. Ives Gammell, who studied under William Paxton, who in turn studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme—an artistic lineage James referred to as “the unbroken line.”
I bring these two traditions together in my teaching, combining the discipline of classical draftsmanship with the energy, storytelling, and visual imagination of comic book art. My goal is to make this knowledge approachable, practical, and inspiring for artists at every stage of their development.
