About Thomas
I teach skills, not formulae. It’s amazing how much schools teach, and how little students learn. Every year, kids have to learn more mathematical “rules”, without being told why they’re important. Is it any wonder many grow to hate maths? I start with your child’s interests, not some formula book. I create personalised problems, teaching my students mathematical skills they will use beyond the exam hall. My students learn how to solve problems, not apply rules. This sets them up for success in exams, and beyond. I am an experienced (>5 years) maths tutor wanting to take on one or two more students. I recently graduated with a first-class degree in theoretical physics from UCL. When I'm not tutoring maths, you can find me working in data science, rock climbing, or writing a blog. Success stories include: Taught 4 students IB HL maths. 3 students achieved 7/7, one achieved 6/7. Taught 3 students pre-GCSE maths. They went from uninterested in the subject to engaged. Marks rose by up to 40%. Taught 5 students GCSE maths. The average student improved their marks by 30%. Taught 2 students IB HL Chemistry. One got 6/7, the other 7/7. Both got into their top choice university. Taught 4 first-year university students maths. Helped all get a 1st in their mathematical methods module. Taught 12 second-year university students monte-carlo simulations. All got 1st in their computing module.
