About David
I am an intuition-focused tutor who believes that the best way to learn maths and physics is to focus on a small set of core ideas from which the rest of the subject immediately flows. This is a very time-saving method, since it immediately elucidates the primary ideas around which each topic is built, and quickly builds fluency with using mathematics in a variety of contexts.

Hi! My name is David and I study mathematical physics at UCL. I’ve previously been a research fellow in Caltech’s maths department and this summer I’ll be doing research on the theory of reinforcement learning in Harvard. I ended my first year in university with a first (the highest degree classification in the UK), and I’m currently ranked in the top 10 out of about 300 students. I graduated with an IB Diploma in 2020 with a total of 42/45 points, achieving a 7 in higher level mathematics, biology, economics and chemistry, finishing as one of the top students in the year. I previously studied at Imperial College London. In high school I participated in some mathematical olympiads, and notably finished as a finalist in the mathematics olympiads of St. Petersburg State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. I was also my school’s team leader for the ISMTF mathematics competition.
I have extensive experience tutoring mathematics and physics at all levels of schooling, starting from middle school and ending with final-year courses in A levels or the IB programme. I can also prepare students for more specialised examinations, such as STEP or MAT. I really believe that these subjects can be approached in a way which is much more interesting and fun than what’s usually taught at school. By focusing on the right intuitions, I help students develop a significant amount of understanding with much less effort than they’re used to - mathematics and physics becomes easy once seen through the right lens, and having experienced the subject at a university and research level, I can confidently say that I know the best way to approach any topic in the high school syllabus. I am also happy to work as an enrichment tutor, for students with the desire to learn some more advanced mathematics. I have a lot of little brothers so I’m good with kids.
