About Cheryl

I am a Part-Time Lecturer at the Universities of Oxford, Bristol, and Southampton. Based in Caerphilly City Centre, I offer piano lessons from my home studio on a Kawai K300 piano. I am also open to discussing alternative arrangements if preferred.

I graduated from Cornell University (New York) with a Doctorate in Piano Performance and Music Theory. Before this, I lived in Britain for seven years, where I completed my A Levels at the specialist music school Wells Cathedral School, earned a First Class Honours degree in Music from Oxford University, and obtained a Master’s in Piano Performance with Distinction from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Throughout my academic journey, I have won several prizes: the John James Blackmore Prize at Cornell; the Gilbert Prize for Piano Performance and John Roberts Memorial Award at RWCMD; and the Organ Scholarship, Academic Scholarship, and Joan Conway Scholarship in Performance Studies at Oxford.

I began learning the piano at age 4, progressing through the ABRSM Practical and Theory graded examinations. I was invited to perform in ABRSM High Scorers' concerts on both the piano and violin, and I hold an LRSM in Piano Performance. My performance experience spans solo and concerto performances, accompaniment, chamber music, and orchestral playing, with experience and prizes in international competitions and festivals.

Whether preparing for exams, performances, or simply learning for enjoyment, I work closely with my students to help them achieve their full potential, with the goal of fostering a lifelong love of music.
