About Emily
I have been a writing center tutor at my university for more than two years now. Throughout my time as a tutor, I have had experience with students of all different skill levels and backgrounds. Frequently, I also meet with international students on the best ways to reconcile differences between their cultural writing practices and American academic expectations. This position has not only allowed me to expand my technical writing skills, but also my abilities to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals who possess different cultural and educational backgrounds from my own.

As a writing center tutor at my university, I work with fellow students to provide strategies for the development of their writing skills through collaboration. I first read through a student's piece of writing, not only for grammatical errors, but also for potential structural, syntactical, and rhetorical improvement. Each session involves discussion on the tools and strategies that can help to both meet academic expectations and accentuate individual writing style. My ultimate goal is to give students a toolbox for the future, rather than just a quick fix.
