I take a very practical approach to teaching, and aim to address areas of difficulty with the pupil before testing their knowledge on the subject with a series of questions to stretch their ability. This can include past papers to acclimatise the student to the type of questions they will face. Teaching would consist of various methods of teaching depending on the learning style of the pupil, ranging from visual aids to verbal explanations of the theory.
During my A-levels I taught a class full of GCSE students chemistry for a term. The entire class went on to pass their exam, achieving at least their target grade, though some achieved higher. Furthermore, I took part in several one on one tutoring sessions with a student in maths and physics, who went on to achieve much higher than targeted by her instructors at the time.
I am currently studying Mathematical Physics at Edinburgh University, having achieved 4 A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A-level. In addition to team teaching a GCSE Chemistry class, I also worked in Durham University's Physics department in the summer of 2015 adding practical application to the A level teachings.
Matthew is a hard -working, conscientious person. He strives to do his best in everything he does. He is reliable and committed and has an enthusiasm for both teaching and learning. He has mentored and taught both individual students and groups of students in the past, with successful outcomes. Furthermore, Matthew is an approachable and friendly person who has the ability to build strong working relationships with students from all backgrounds. I think Matthew would make an excellent addition to your team.
Matthew has demonstrated to me in the few months that I have known him that he is both a incredibly organised and motivated individual. Whenever he is set a piece of work or a task to complete he will complete it to a very high standard in a very timely manner.
Matthew is a very kind and friendly person, who is always ready to listen. I have no doubts that he would be a great tutor.
Matthew tutored me in Chemistry for GCSE as well as been a supportive friend. He uses clear and concise language and is fun in his teaching style. He tailors everything to YOU and has no issue going over things again and again and again and again and again and again..... (like he did for me!)
