About Hemen
One thing about me is I love learning, and am always striving to learn new things, through my program at university or simply through others (whether it be academic or cultural knowledge, it's always interesting!). I especially love meeting people from different backgrounds and learning about culture, since I am an international student from Ethiopia (but raised in UAE). I also love music and exploring, and am incredibly excited to explore all the sights and beauties Toronto has to offer. I know all too well the stress that comes with school, and had always wished that I had a tutor or mentor during my time in high school, so I have always strived to ensure that students know they have a helping hand to remind them that school isn't as bad as it seems if you look at things in a different light!

I typically start a lesson by establishing any material that the student has had trouble with in class, or any upcoming tests, etc., and working over that. Typically, I have had experience working with middle and high school students, which is advantageous because they are less likely to view me as an "overbearing" teacher and more like a(n) (academic) confidante. It has also served helpful for students to practice active recall, in which they relay a concept back to me after I have explained it, and then again every few problems to ensure the enhancement of their retention. After every lesson, I ensure that the student has the opportunity to provide feedback on the course of the session (what study methods worked, what they would like to change, etc.), allowing them to create a space in which they can maximize their learning.
