About Ji
I am a PhD student in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, with a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering. My academic and research background covers materials science, chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and semiconductor-related topics.
I enjoy breaking down technical concepts into clear and logical steps and helping students understand not only how to solve a problem, but why the solution works. I am comfortable working with students from high school through introductory university courses, and I adapt my explanations to each student’s background and goals.

I focus on helping students understand the concepts behind chemistry rather than simply memorizing formulas. In each lesson, I first identify the topics or problems the student is struggling with, explain the underlying principles clearly, and then work through representative problems step by step.
My background in engineering and materials science allows me to connect chemistry with physics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and real-world applications. I can also help students develop a systematic approach to quantitative problem solving.
Lessons can be adapted to high school and introductory university-level students, including general chemistry, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and related physics topics. Students are welcome to bring course notes, homework, practice problems, or specific concepts they would like to review.
