About Erin
As an art tutor, I follow the advice of my own art teacher: 'Don't underestimate the importance of play.' I encourage students to experiment and enjoy the creative process, and to be driven by personal inspiration, shaping art that uniquely resonates with each artist. All while reinforcing the idea that mistakes aren't setbacks but opportunities for learning.
My teaching is personalized, creating a friendly, patient, and dedicated environment. I'm passionate about helping students reach their artistic goals, instilling confidence in their unique journey. For example one of my students wishes to enter into her first art competition, another wants to learn ceramics, another just wants to have fun and get their hands messy. I incorporate fun art-making, with research and critical discussions appropriate to age and ability. Providing direction and confidence, I empower students to continue their art practice with enthusiasm. Driven by a passion for creativity, I'm not just an instructor; I'm a perpetual learner. I look forward to sharing this love for learning about art, inspiring students to discover their creative voice and nurture their own artistic journey.

My teaching approach is centred around interactive and enjoyable activities. Before diving into creative endeavours, I initiate conversations with students (and/or parents) to understand their learning styles, goals, experiences, and interests. This enables me to tailor bespoke learning experiences that cater to individual needs. Throughout the sessions, I emphasize the importance of play, research, and constructive discussions, adapting the approach to suit the age and proficiency of the student. Practical sessions take precedence, complemented by a suitable amount of theory based on the student's age and objectives.
I encourage the use of art journals during and outside of our sessions, fostering continuous exploration and documentation of creative journeys.
My qualifications include an honours degree in Fine Art, majoring in sculpture, and a diploma in commercial design. Though I mainly work in freelance illustration, I engage in diverse projects across fine art, design, craft, and illustration. My commitment to continuous learning is evident through both traditional and online courses, coupled with self-directed exploration in various artistic disciplines.
Typically, my lessons last an hour, but flexibility is key. For face-to-face sessions, the duration may vary based on travel distance and considerations like petrol expenses.
My lessons are designed for a diverse audience. While I excel in working with children, my personable and friendly nature makes me open to students of all ages. Whether you're a budding artist or someone looking to enhance their skills, my tutoring is tailored to meet individual aspirations and foster artistic growth.
