About Phil
Upon finishing my academic studies in 2012, I have been working in the education sector as first a teaching assistant, then a teacher. As a teaching assistant, I have worked with EAL students helping them not just adapt to a new school, but a new country and its customs, which was a fantastic experience. I also assisted with literacy and numeracy activities in the classroom as well as providing pastoral support to a number of young learners. In my teaching experience, I have taught a diverse range of subjects, boosting my versatility as a practitioner. I have worked with students from the age of five to adult learners, showing that I can adapt my approaches to teaching to suit individuals. Over the past two years in Birmingham I have been fortunate enough to assist five students in gaining Level 5 or above in English, along with working with four students who are new to English helping them to gain a command of the language. I have also worked with students on Functional Skills in both English and Mathematics. I work with students and parents to engineer a bespoke learning programme tailored to the needs of each individual. I am a firm believer in discussion of topics as a key means of helping students revise and demonstrate what they know. My teaching style is therefore informal and makes student comfort a priority, as well as motivating and encouraging students to be the best they can be. It has always been my ambition to educate people of all ages, as personally I feel there is nothing more satisfying than helping students accomplish any goals that they have. I feel privileged to be able to have made a difference to people's lives and look forward to each new experience. I have access to my own transport and can work from 5 in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as on Sunday mornings.
