About Cecile
After completing University I worked in Histopathology in Leicester and Derby where I passed the state registration to become a fully qualified Biomedical Scientist. I specialised in Electron microscopy then later into Immunohistochemistry.
After training trainees in the laboratory, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I decided to change careers and complete my Secondary PGCE in Secondary Science and have since worked in various schools teaching science from KS3 to A level. I led a range of courses from Entry Level science to A level Biology and the BTEC Applied Science courses.
I have spent 2 years working in a Special Educational Needs school as a Senior leader where I was also an exams officer and Quality Nominee for the BTEC courses.
I then wanted to put my knowledge of special education needs to use in mainstream schools and then continued my journey in curriculum until I became a Deputy SENCO/Acting SENCO where I completed my NASENCO qualification. I led the EAL department as well as writing EHCP/SPOA documentation for those who required additional support in schools. I liaised with parents and various external agencies to ensure consistent help was provided at all times.
As a Head of Biology I implement robust systems for my staff to use in lessons to ensure students are motivated by the lessons, understand the content, use the correct terminology and we work together to gain confidence in answering exam questions in order to accomplish their goals.

NASENCO – Senco qualification
Postgraduate Award of Proficiency in Assessment for Access Arrangements (PAPAA) Level 7 Assessor (CIEA Approved)

Lessons would be 1:1 where there would be a focus on exam technique. Biology is difficult, there is a lot of content to remember and understand and the highest marks come from application questions. Focusing on how to apply knowledge is the key to success in exams.
