About David
I have a Ph.D. in physics as well as a Bachelor of Education degree, and have experience teaching both math and physics at the high school level. I love to teach and share my enthusiasm for math. Aside from the enormous practical and career benefits which come from a solid understanding of math, learning math can also help develop a person's cognitive abilities. Just as a physical workout develops muscles, working through math problems helps to unleash the brain's power. A good tutor can help increase students' confidence and abilities, allowing them to fully reap the benefits of their math education.
I can tutor high school level math, including calculus, pre-calculus, algebra, and trigonometry. I can also cover subjects that might be useful in preparation for math contests such as elementary number theory.

Tutoring is available for high school students in math and physics, up to and including AP level courses. My teaching approach is customized to each learner. Some students understand the basic concepts and simply need help with homework assignments. For those students, I try to lead them to discover how to solve the problems themselves as well as to teach them techniques and strategies which will help them to solve problems on their own. Other students need help understanding the material, and for those students I can offer lessons along with problem sets. I will check the student's work and provide feedback. Some students need a mix of these approaches.
When it comes to learning math, I feel it is very important for students to understand WHY and not merely HOW things work. Students will be more likely to remember how to apply a technique if they understand why it works. This understanding is also critical when students are faced with problems that are not essentially identical to examples already given.
I use Zoom to communicate with students and may provide additional documents in PDF format, so students will need both Zoom and a PDF document viewer.

I enlisted Dave as a tutor to help with trouble i was having in the prerequisite math classes needed for my undergraduate degree in Economics (Calculus, Algebra).
