About Akila
This is Akila, a senior disciple of ‘Natyakala Vipanchee’ Smt. Meenakshi Sagar. I'm a trained instructor and performer of Bharatanatyam. I've been studying this amazing art form for the past 20 years, and I also have a ton of experience instructing and teaching it. I'm a recognized 'B Grade' artist of the Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai and I'm currently pursuing my Master of Fine Arts, Bharathanatyam at Annamalai University, Chidambaram. I'm a working professional, and my love for the art form has driven me to continue studying and passing on what I've learned. Over the years, I have participated in various Sabhas, Natyanjalis, Government sponsored events and corporate meets. I have also had the prestigious opportunity of performing at the Indian Republic Day Parade 2023 at New Delhi in front of the honorable President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, honorable Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi and the Ministers of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. I’m also the recipient of the following titles 2010 - “NRITHYA ARADHIKA” by Aradhana School of Dance, Coimbatore. 2017 - “NRITHYA KALA VIDUSHI” by Nrithyathi Kalakshethram and Samanwayam Society for Art & Culture. 2018 - “OJASWI” by Nrithyathi Kalakshethram, Bhilai 2022 - “NRITHYA NIRANJANA” by AIDA & Kathak Ashram Udaipur 2022 - “BHARATA KALAMANI” by Prayathnam, Chennai

Sri Gurubhyo Namaha The goal of the art form known as Bharatanatyam is to unite the body and the spirit. Both theory and practical lessons are required to achieve this. A typical class of mine would include the following - Warm up session - Practical sessions which include posture correction, improving angashudham, in-depth look into adavus (the basic dance steps), getting you accustomed to various speeds and nadai-s. - Theory session which includes a Basic Introduction to Bharatanatyam, Brief Introduction of Natyasastra, learning the concepts in Abhinaya Dharpanam and exploring the various mythological stories. - Cool down session The style in which I will be teaching is the great nattuvanar - Dandayuthapani Pillai Bhani which has a pinch of Kalakshetra Style to it. I'm also open to choreographing any song or an item from Margam for students for a particular occasion, function or competition. Akila is an outstanding dancer and she has won many awards. She owns the Bharatha Kalaamani Title which takes so many years of Hardwork,Consistency,Proficiency in her Bharathanatiyam Skills. She’s an excellent teacher and choreographed for many Dance programs. She had got many awards in her Dance career. You can feel the passion in her teaching and love for Bharathanatiyam. I would recommend Akila for everyone who wants to start/continue Bharathanatiyam. She can teach from Basics till Expert level with detailed instructions. If you join her classes you will feel passion for dance.
