About Jolene
I'm a writer and editor with more than twenty years' experience, a Postgraduate Certificate in Journalism and Honours Degree in English Literature.
I have experience tutoring young people in high school and volunteering with young people, including CV writing workshops and careers coaching. I'm also a mentor to a young person in care.
What I love most about tutoring is seeing young people develop in confidence as they see what they can do with the right kind of teaching to support them. I once heard a head teacher say "It's amazing what young people can achieve when you believe in them." This is why I do what I do.

I have a passion for helping students develop and achieve their best. I always adapt to the needs of my students while making sure lessons are challenging, focused and productive. I support students to try varied learning activities and find ways to adapt these to their interests. This could be completing past papers, essays and reflective pieces and other forms of creative writing. I engage students in critical discussion and give them extra questions. This develops their ability to independently evaluate materials and articulate their thoughts with confidence and clarity. Constructive feedback on work is at the heart of my approach. Lessons are typically one hour but can be longer if extra support is needed for example, in the lead up to exams.
