About Lenore
I’ve taught basic writing, composition, and reading and study skills for both native and non-native speakers of English. I recognize how challenging it is to make meaning on the page, especially when one is not familiar with the demands of academic discourse, and I bring good strategies to tutoring sessions based on my experience. For writing, I help you figure out what you want to say and how best to say it. For reading, I equip you with strategies to increase your comprehension. I am a published writer; my professional work has appeared in national education journals and my poetry has been published in literary journals and anthologies. My other interests include making art and digging in the dirt.

Our work together starts with clarifying your needs and goals--from the big picture to the small details. I spend time exploring how you learn best and what kind of feedback suits you. Before we meet, I always read your work carefully and make notes to address during out tutoring session. For academic writing, I address organization, coherence, clarity, substance, word choice, and any surface features that interfere with meaning, Basically, I help you figure out what you need to say and how best to say it. I'm patient and have a sense of humor. I want you to enjoy our sessions together. For creative writing, I give feedback specific to the genre (fiction, poetry), exploring ways to tighten your language and make it more powerful.
