About Gavin
I've played guitar regularly for about 40 years. I completed a PGCE course to teach music in secondary schools, but have mostly taught guitar privately. I completed a classical music degree about 20 years ago, and still use a lot of that knowledge to write for string quartet and small ensembles.

I've been playing guitar for forty years... Initially, electric guitar in rock and indie bands. I then completed a classical music degree in my thirties, and now generally play nylon string guitar, but I can play/teach pretty much any kind of style on guitar - on acoustic, electric, or bass etc. I'm keen on music theory and music notation; but I think it's important to get playing and make music straight away. The sight reading and theory stuff can come later. Learning guitar is all about getting results quickly and seeing improvement. In an hour lesson I'd aim to give people enough stuff to practise for the following week. Having played guitar for so long, I've got loads of tips and tricks to make life easy when learning to play. If you're looking to learn classical guitar, I've got loads of music to share and learn. If you're looking to learn how to play songs, I'm happy to spend a little time beforehand to figure out exactly how they're played so I can show you how. You'll just need a guitar and some time to practise during the week. I can provide sheet music and printouts of the stuff we'll cover. I'm based in North East London, but I'm happy to travel throughout London. Alternatively, you can come to my house for lessons, or we can do them online. I'm happy to tailor lessons to people's needs. Learning to play guitar is easy, as long as people enjoy it and see results.
