About Luca

I am a First Class BSc Economics graduate from The University of Warwick and ex-Senior Consultant at specialist commercial strategy firm Simon-Kucher & Partners. As a tutor, I aim to be a trusted partner in the full spectrum of my tutees' development, drawing on both my academic and professional experience to support their learning and goals. My main subjects are Maths and Economics, which I tutor to all school levels (A-level, GCSE etc.), 11+, 13+ and 16+. I also tutor economics at the undergraduate level and provide all my students additional support where needed in writing personal statements, CVs and cover letters. My primary ambition is to be an effective tutor, which is why I make it my top priority to understand a student's learning style and areas of subject weakness first, using this to then inform the learning approach I take. I found this to be an effective tool to creating a personalised learning experience when teaching students in a juvenile detention centre in Tanzania and continue to do so to deliver engaging and enriching lessons. I am passionate about fostering a desire for lifelong learning amongst my students. As someone who went to one of the worst schools in the country for my GCSEs and A-levels but still managed to get into one of the best universities and land a prestigious corporate job, I had to teach myself to learn independently. This is a trait I aim to pass on to all my students. (Reference: (concealed information) I have experience providing mentorship to university students on how to successfully get a corporate job through my time with "The Talent Tap" charity, so can also provide guidance on the extra-curricular activities that can be pursued to enhance career opportunities. Experience: The University of Warwick: - Ranked #2 in the UK for Economics at the time of my application (The Complete University Guide, 2016) - Currently ranked #4 in the UK for Economics (The Complete University Guide, 2024) Simon-Kucher & Partners: - Ranked #1 in EMEA for Pricing, Sales & Marketing Consulting (Vault, 2024) - Part of Forbes' elite list of 2023 World's Best Management Consulting Firms (Forbes, 2023) Education: University: - University of Warwick - BSc Economics [First Class Honours] School: The Elmgreen School A Levels - Maths [A*] - achieved 96% (highest in my school) - Economics [A] - History [B] AS Levels - Further Maths [A] The Elmgreen School GCSE (5A*, 4A) - Maths [A*] - Additional Science [A*] - Psychology [A*] - History [A*] - Religious Education [A*] - Triple Science [A] - Core Science [A] - English Literature [A] - English Language [A] - ICT [Distinction] - Spanish [B]

The student's learning style and areas of subject weakness are always first carefully understood so that syllabus content can be approached in a way that ensures deeper understanding of relevant topics. Based on these needs, a wide array of pedagogical approaches may be taken, including but not limited to: - Walking through structured exercises - Offering alternative explanations that draw on real-life examples and analogies to aid understanding and overcome mental blocks - Condensing and summarising notes to utilise during exam revision - Tackling exam style questions to ensure the student's understanding of a topic can be translated into exam marks My focus will always be to ensure the student has an engaging and enriching learning experience that fosters a desire for lifelong learning.
