About Ann
I am a highly skilled, experienced, passionate teacher of English and EAP/EAL. I believe in developing and delivering flexible, student-centred education to motivate and support students such that they can be successful in their writing/literacy and academic skills as well as in their broader education and beyond. I believe that any student can excel given the right support and I am dedicated to providing that support.

Each of my lessons is tailored to the needs of the individual student. I teach all levels from primary through to post-graduate. Each hour-long lesson can include the development of skills in any of the following areas: academic English/essay writing, literacy/reading, critical thinking/analysis, exam preparation (11+, GCSE, A-level), dissertation/thesis writing, ESOL/EFL/EAL.
I hold multiple degrees including a doctorate, a Master's degree in English Education and a Delta equivalent. I have been teaching for 20 years across secondary/further education and higher education.
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Ann.
Perfect! We are still in the early stages, so it's difficult to give a full assessment at this point. However, both my daughter and I felt very comfortable with Ann from the first lesson. There seems to be good chemistry, and Ann comes across as highly experienced, knowledgeable, and competent. We are looking forward to continuing lessons with her.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Ann since our PhD years, when we worked together in the same graduate office. From the very beginning, she stood out as someone who was exceptionally driven, yet equally kind, approachable and generous with her time. She has always been the sort of colleague who is willing to support others, share ideas and create a positive working environment.
It therefore came as no surprise to see Ann go on to build a successful career as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham. We have now been colleagues for the past seven years, during which I have had the opportunity to see her teaching develop and flourish. She is an innovative educator who continually looks for new ways to make even the most challenging or seemingly dry topics engaging, accessible and enjoyable for her students.
One of Ann's greatest strengths is her remarkable ability to explain complex concepts with clarity and simplicity. She has a real gift for breaking down difficult material into manageable, logical steps without ever oversimplifying the content. This is a surprisingly rare skill, and one that has earned her the appreciation and respect of both colleagues and students alike.
Beyond her expertise, Ann is patient, encouraging and genuinely invested in helping others succeed. She creates an environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, developing their confidence and achieving their full potential.
If English is giving you a headache, Ann is your solution. She will empower you to become an independent learner and you will be in exceptionally capable hands.
Ann and I have worked together at the University of Birmingham for a few years now. She's a dedicated teacher and a lovely and generous colleague. I love her creativity and her artistic background and how she includes that in her materials and her teaching. She also has great subject knowledge and is very popular with her students. I totally recommend her!
I have worked with Ann for many years and know that she has a great range of subject knowledge as well as a great variety of teaching skills. She is popular with her students and they always do well in her classes. You will make good progress studying with Ann!
I was in one of Ann's classes at university. She is a really caring and supportive teacher who always pays attention to her students and is eager to answer any questions. She has helped me improve my academic writing skills tremendously. Throughout the course, Ann consistently tracked my progress while offering many useful tips. She was also really good at adapting her lessons to students' needs. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to everyone, as she is a dedicated and knowledgeable teacher.
