About Johannes
I am an Actuarial Specialist with a strong academic background in Actuarial Science and Mathematical Statistics. My experience with mathematics has shaped my teaching philosophy—during my early studies, I struggled to connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications, which made the subject feel abstract and difficult to fully understand.
This challenge now drives my approach to tutoring. I focus on making mathematics intuitive and meaningful by showing learners how concepts apply beyond the classroom, helping them move away from memorization and towards true understanding. My goal is to build both confidence and competence so that learners can approach problems with clarity and independence.
I am passionate about tutoring because it allows me to support students in their academic journey while also strengthening my own analytical thinking. Ultimately, I aim to make mathematics more accessible, practical, and empowering for every learner I work with.

Mathematics can often feel intimidating, and many learners fall into the trap of memorizing formulas without truly understanding the underlying concepts. This often leads to difficulty when facing unfamiliar or “unseen” problems in exams.
My tutoring approach focuses on simplifying mathematical concepts by removing unnecessary jargon and explaining ideas in a clear, intuitive way. I use relatable, real-world examples to help learners connect with the content beyond the textbook.
I place strong emphasis on conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization, ensuring that learners understand the “why” behind each method. This builds confidence and the ability to solve a wide range of problems independently.
Practice is also essential, so I provide carefully selected exercises that develop critical thinking and stretch learners beyond their comfort zone. Mathematics is ultimately about recognizing patterns and applying knowledge to new and unfamiliar situations.
I am familiar with CAPS, NSC, IEB, Cambridge (IGCSE and A-Level), as well as university-level mathematics and statistics, allowing me to tailor lessons to each learner’s needs, syllabus, and goals.
My aim is not only to improve marks, but also to build confidence, analytical thinking, and a genuine appreciation for mathematics.
