About Shawana
Hi! I’m Shawana, an Advanced Higher English student with a strong interest in both creative and academic writing and literature. I have several years of experience writing as a hobby and in school, a deep interest in literature, and experience tutoring students across different age groups and abilities.
Having passed National 5 and Higher English myself, I understand the Scottish curriculum from a student’s perspective and know how important it is to make lessons feel engaging rather than overwhelming. I aim to create a supportive environment where students can ask questions, develop their confidence and become more independent in their work.
I teach English from primary school through to Higher level and tailor my lessons to each student’s individual needs, whether they need help building the basics, preparing for exams or developing their writing, reading, and comprehension skills.

I use a fun and interactive approach to help students feel confident in English while building a deeper understanding of their work. I encourage critical thinking, rather than simply giving students the answers, and adapt my lessons to suit each student’s individual needs, interests and learning style. I want students to feel engaged and resonate with what they are learning.
My lessons typically last one hour and are available for students from primary school up until Higher English.
I have experience tutoring English across different age groups, as well as personal experience completing National 5 and Higher English, achieving As and Bs. I am currently studying Advanced Higher English and have several years of experience writing both fiction and non-fiction.
