About Isabella
With a background in comparative literature, poetry in translation, and classics, as well as extensive editorial and research experience, I guide students in developing confidence, originality, and intellectual curiosity. Although my specialism is in Classics and English Literature, I believe in a broad, interdisciplinary approach. If we’re studying Greek poetry, expect to explore its modern adaptations, its transformation in 19th- and 20th-century music, and its echoes in contemporary literature. Learning is at its richest when subjects speak to each other. I hold degrees from Oxford University, University College London, and King’s College London. My early education was at a specialist music school, and I spent my twenties travelling across the Mediterranean, immersing myself in languages and local cultures. I have held writers' residencies in Italy and in London. I have taught at UCL and led creative writing workshops at Birkbeck College.

Looking to sharpen your critical thinking, refine your writing, or explore literature and classics in a deeper, more expansive way? I offer bespoke one-to-one tutoring that goes beyond the syllabus, drawing connections between literature, history, philosophy, and the arts to help you see the bigger picture. My focus is on both helping you achieve your potential and indulging your curiosity, but also giving as much access to arts, culture, and contemporary scholarship as possible. I run small group seminars, mirroring the experience people would get as an undergraduate at Oxford and Cambridge. We sit around and we talk about loads of things. We talk about politics and culture, we have debates, we have arguments about what is happening in the world. Lessons targeted for university entrance and widening access to scholarship, further study for adults, creative writing, and language-learning for all ages. - Interdisciplinary Learning – Connecting literature, global histories, and culture - Comparative & World Literature – Engaging with diverse texts and traditions - Classics & Ancient Thought – Greek & Latin literature in dialogue with modern ideas - Essay Writing & Editing – Crafting compelling arguments with clarity and depth.
