About Luca
Teaching and education played a key role in my life, and I deeply respect their importance and the difference they can make. My latest educational experience was majoring in Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Here, I was able to record, mix and master music with the guidance of Grammy-winning engineers and producers. Part of my teaching simply involves transmitting the traditions and the techniques they shared with me, which I believe anyone can learn and make their own. However, my journey with music production started well before college: as a self-educated recording, mixing and mastering engineer, I had to sift through an ocean of biased opinions, dogmatic beliefs and often well-intentioned, but misleading information (yes, even from renowned sources). The process of finding truth in this half science/half art discipline has been a long one, but it gave me the motivation to be as clear and straight-to-the-point as possible when teaching others, knowing the responsibility that it bears. My professional experience ranged from owning my own small studio and working with hobbyists and young talent to recording in big multimillion dollar facilities, to being a production assistant in Rick Rubin's Shangri La recording studio in Malibu, CA. I believe that working in the professional world gave me an entirely different, but equally important perspective, one that is complementary to the educational background. Taking the best out of both worlds makes my teaching much more valuable.

I teach music production and audio engineering: music production to beginner and intermediate level students, and audio engineering to students of all levels, including professional musicians. Here are some topics we could dive deeper into the specifics of, or take a bird's eye view: DISCIPLINES: -Recording (analog, hybrid, home or studio, microphone placement, any genre and instrument) -Vocal Production -Post production (editing, tuning) -Mixing (general concepts and genre specific techniques) -Mastering (for a variety of formats) -Production (executive production, record making concepts, MIDI, beat-making, basic music theory, and more) SOFTWARE and HARDWARE -DAWs (Logic Pro X & Pro Tools in depth, Ableton, FL Studio and other DAW basics) -Editing and postproduction (RX, Melodyne...) -Plugins (Synths, Samplers, mixing plugins from Universal Audio to Waves, Ozone, FabFilter and more) -Synth basics (how does a synthesizer work, which are its parameters and what do they do?) -Recording and mixing hardware (microphones, analog consoles, outboard gear, compressors, EQs etc) -History of recording and production gear Who do I teach? I teach music production and audio engineering: music production to beginner and intermediate level students, and audio engineering to students of all levels, including professional musicians. My experience has included helping kids of all ages with their after school passions, helping teenagers make their first professional records, and helping professional musicians, composers, and producers become more independent and competitive by allowing them to take some of the audio engineering tasks unto themselves. How do I teach? My lessons are typically one to one and therefore fully personalized to the needs and wants of the client. There is no preplanned or standardized practice, everything depends on the student. We could dive deep into details of a specific topic (say, microphone placement, or a specific software), or we could take a bird's eye view on what it means to be a producer//engineer. We could create a song from start to end or we could focus on just mixing it. We could go through the entire process in one or two classes, or dilute it in several lessons for a more comprehensive experience. I will do my best to understand your needs, where you're coming from, and propose a range of options that I'm sure you'll find helpful!
