About Alice
I am an experienced science educator with a PhD in Bioarchaeology and more than ten years of tutoring experience, supporting learners of all ages and abilities in Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). Throughout my career, I have combined strong subject knowledge with an individualised, student-centred teaching approach that enables learners to build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and achieve their academic goals.
For over ten years, I have worked as a private tutor, delivering one-to-one tuition in General Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to both young people and adult learners. I have successfully supported students in improving their academic performance, preparing for examinations, and developing independent learning skills. My tutoring philosophy focuses on adapting lessons to each learner's needs, encouraging curiosity, strengthening analytical thinking, and creating a positive learning environment where students gain both confidence and academic success.
In addition to private tutoring, I have extensive experience working in educational settings across primary, secondary, further, and higher education. As a Science Educator with Sciencetots UK, I design and deliver engaging science sessions for young learners, inspiring curiosity through hands-on practical activities. As an SEN Tutor with ASEND, I provide personalised one-to-one educational support for students with a range of additional learning needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and visual impairment, adapting teaching strategies and resources to enable every learner to achieve their full potential.
My classroom experience also includes working as a Teaching Assistant, Academic Support Worker, and Learning Support Assistant, where I have supported pupils academically, emotionally, and socially in both mainstream and specialist educational settings. These roles have strengthened my ability to differentiate teaching, build positive relationships with students, and support learners with diverse educational needs.
Alongside teaching, I have significant experience supporting practical science education. As Senior Science Technician at Horsforth School and previously at Ricards Lodge High School, I worked closely with science teachers to develop practical lessons, demonstrate scientific techniques, prepare laboratory activities, and ensure safe working practices through COSHH and risk assessment procedures. I also trained teachers and technicians, supported curriculum delivery, and helped create engaging practical learning experiences for students.
Within higher education, I have planned and delivered practical laboratory sessions for undergraduate students at the University of York, provided academic skills training, and taught geography to international students at York College. These experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly, support learners with varying levels of prior knowledge, and foster independent learning and academic confidence.

My one-hour sessions are highly interactive lessons, tailored around the learning preferences and needs of the students. I have worked with a range of age groups (primary to university) and I have successfully supported students in improving their academic performance, preparing for examinations, and developing independent learning skills. I am passionate about helping learners realise their potential and believe that effective tutoring is built on patience, adaptability, encouragement, and strong subject knowledge. Whether supporting students who require additional learning support, preparing learners for examinations, or inspiring curiosity in science, I strive to create positive learning experiences that develop confidence as well as academic achievement.
