About Nikki
I teach because I enjoy working with teenagers, and I love my subject matter. I believe the English classroom is about so much more than just reading books and writing essays. It is a place where students can learn things about themselves and connect with who they are in this big, wide world. They can form opinions and learn how to express themselves professionally, all the while learning how to use their voice. The English classroom is a place where students can learn about other cultures and become exposed to how other people live. They can learn tolerance, compassion, and empathy. And most importantly, in the English classroom, students can learn the key skills of communication, which our entire society is based upon. The English classroom has a place for everyone, even if reading and writing are not your first and favorite things!

Tutoring is really about catering lessons to a student's needs. I am a flexible tutor who takes the time to get to know her students and develops lessons that will work for the student (not the teacher).
A good lesson generally lasts 45 minutes - an hour and involves a range of activities designed to engage the student as well as target any learning needs or requirements. My lessons tend to take a student-centred approach where students can practice their skills in a safe, low-stakes environment, while hopefully having a little fun at the same time.
I am a certified teacher in the State of Queensland, and I also hold a teaching qualification from the State of California in the United States. I have been teaching English to high school students for many years now and love working one-on-one with students to improve their success.
