About Daria
Hello! I am an English tutor with 5 years of experience in teaching and tutoring. I recently completed my PGCE in ESOL and Literacy teaching at UCL's IOE, where I undertook placement, teaching ESOL and Functional Skills (English) at a community college. Prior to this, in 2024, I secured a 1st in BA Education Studies at Middlesex University, and in 2021 I completed Cambridge's CELTA course, qualifying me to teach English. I came to the UK in 2018 to study at university in London. Before that, I lived in Cyprus. I spoke English at school and Russian at home, and so grew up bilingual. I also learned Greek at school, but do not speak it fluently. I am currently also learning Japanese and Spanish because I love to travel, and because I want to better connect with my students' cultures and their experiences. Some of my interests include reading, gardening, researching topics I find interesting, and playing the piano. Although teaching is my job, it is also a hobby for me - meeting and getting to know my students is a pleasure, and seeing them improve is very motivating and fulfilling.

I specialise in teaching adults and young people (16+), but also have experience teaching younger children. I have been tutoring privately since 2020, and have extensive experience in online teaching, as well as in-person teaching. I have experience supporting all levels from A2 (Entry 2/3 in ESOL), up to GCSE and Functional Skills Level 2. I am also able to support at higher levels (academic writing, CVs, application letters, etc.). I also have experience supporting various special needs such as learning needs (ADHD), and social, emotional and mental health needs (anxiety, apathy to learning). I personalise lessons to suit the needs and preferences of my learners: whatever their goals are, I make sure to integrate different skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) into each lesson, and to use materials that they find interesting and engaging. I am able to provide online lessons, as well as face-to-face lessons near and around the Paddington area in London. The lesson length can range from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the person and their personal needs.
