About Sophy
Hi, my name is Sophy and I am a TEFL teacher from wonderful London in the United Kingdom. My passion for teaching began when I got a job as a theatre tutor for after-school clubs in the local area. From that moment, I started to discover the many joys of teaching and the power of language as a means of self-expression. I went on to spend half a year travelling around South-East Asia, where I began to realise how powerful a tool speaking, listening, reading, and writing English can be, and I set out to become a TEFL teacher not only to support English learning, but also to encourage students to have fun and gain confidence in their English abilities. Some fun facts about me: I am also a florist, I love flowers and nature, and I believe flowers can brighten anyone’s day. As my degree suggests, I’m also a bit of a theatre and film nerd. I love reading plays and sometimes even try writing my own. Finally, I love to cook. Learning about food from different countries is one of my favourite hobbies, and I enjoy eating it even more! I decided to pursue a TEFL qualification after a year of tutoring theatre, specifically helping my students gain confidence in public speaking. This is where I rediscovered my passion for teaching. I have a deep love for language, and as a Theatre graduate from the Department of English, I truly appreciate how language empowers us to express ourselves. My teaching style is inspiring, energetic, and varied. Together, we’ll focus on topics that interest you. I aim to create a non-judgemental space where you're encouraged to speak freely and build fluency with confidence. I’m a kind and compassionate teacher who always prioritises enjoyment in the learning process. Lessons with me are typically 55 minutes long and tailored to each student's individual needs. I specialise in teaching learners up to the age of 14, particularly those at beginner to intermediate levels.
