About Patience
My name is Patience James, and I am a dedicated educator passionate about helping children learn with confidence, understanding, and curiosity.
Over the last 6 years, I have worked with learners across Nigeria, the UK, the US, and Canada through online and physical tutoring, supporting children across different academic levels and learning needs. I teach Mathematics and Science to grades 1-9 learners, including homeschool students and children preparing for examinations such as 11+, SAT, MCAP, BECE, and Common Entrance.
One thing that matters greatly to me is creating a safe learning environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I especially enjoy helping learners who struggle with confidence or anxiety around subjects like Mathematics, guiding them patiently until concepts begin to make sense and learning becomes less frightening.
Beyond academics, I care deeply about the overall growth of children. I believe teaching is not only about improving grades, but also about shaping confident, curious, and resilient young learners.

My tutoring approach focuses on understanding how each child learns and creating a safe, supportive environment where they can think, ask questions, and build confidence. I believe children learn best when teaching is patient, interactive, and paced according to their individual needs.
I use a step-by-step method, breaking complex topics into simple, relatable parts. I also incorporate real-life examples, guided practice, and questioning techniques to strengthen understanding and encourage independent thinking. For learners with Maths anxiety or low confidence, I focus on rebuilding their belief in their ability to learn.
Lessons typically last between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on the learner’s age, attention span, and academic needs.
I teach Mathematics and Science to grades 1-9 learners, including homeschool students and those preparing for exams such as 11+, SAT, BECE, and Common Entrance. I have experience working with learners across Nigeria, the UK, the US, and Canada through both online and in-person tutoring.
