About Katherine
I love working with students, and I see the work that we do together as a series of conversations where I help students gain confidence in their own observations, analytical skills, and writing skills.
I have taught literature, literary analysis, and essay writing to students from a wide range of backgrounds. I have taught college classes since 2002, and I have taught English as a Second Language, tutored middle school, and taught technical writing to high school students.
My goal is to help students not only become skilled at tackling assignments that may cause them trepidation, but also to help students feel proud of their finished products.

All writing is a response to a question or prompt, so I begin by working with students to identify and break down the parts of the question or prompt to which they are responding.
When students are responding to literature, I work with students to identify key themes, literary techniques, and structures in a text they are analyzing.
No matter the assignment, I have students write three drafts: an initial rough draft in which they simply get their ideas down on paper; a second draft where they clearly organize and develop their ideas, and a final draft where they focus on polishing their work.
I have thirty years of experience in writing, editing, publishing and teaching writing and analysis to students from a range of backgrounds, including ESL.
