About Kyla
As I college student at a predominantly white institution, I pride myself in advocating for the community that I identify with the most! I am an active member of Black Student Union and a black women empowerment group at my university. I plan to work with our writing center and creative writing club when I return to Eastern for my third year this upcoming August. I work for the Eastern Illinois University admissions office and I am a mentor for our Freshman Connection program, a program that assists our first generation freshmen and transfer students to adapt to the college lifestyle. Besides my studies, I love to read books, play instruments like the snare drums and cello, and I love hanging out with my friends!

I am a current English student studying undergrad at Eastern Illinois University, located in Charleston, Illinois. I have taken numerous advance English courses in grammar and literacy. In high school, I took honors English my first two years, my junior year I took AP English Literature, and my senior year I took AP English Language. I am currently focused in Creative Writing, but I also take courses regarding professional writing, ancient literature, and a plethora of other subjects under the English department. I am willing to help with various areas of English for any K-12 courses!
