I have a first class degree in film production and a wealth of experience as a creative writer/filmmaker/photographer.
I specialise in creative subjects but I also have strong numeracy and geography skills.
I am patient, empathetic and facilitative in my teaching and mentoring style.
I outline challenging but achievable goals for my students and I always push them to reach their potential.
I work as both a classroom teaching assistant for KS3 and GCSE and as an intervention based tutor. I lead small group and one-to-one sessions to help bring the best out of students.
I also teach filmmaking, creative writing and photography workshops to adults - specialising in travel, fiction and documentary.
I follow the belief - mind and body - that if I'm not being challenged then I'm not moving forward.
As a learning mentor I am patient, caring and encouraging in my approach. I know how to bring the best out of a student and I can easily adapt my teaching style to facilitate individual needs. I have worked with a range of ages and abilities.
I am skilled in various forms of digital media with experience as a writer, photographer and filmmaker for a range of publications.
Harris Academy, Morden - Teaching Assistant (SEN): I have been working as a teaching assistant, primarily supporting GCSE students who are on the special education register, both in the classroom and leading small group and one-to-one sessions. The primary focus was improving literacy and mathematic ability.
TEFL - I taught English as a foreign language in Thailand. The opportunity allowed me to experience a new culture and style of education to that which was familiar.
Film and Photography Workshops - I have lead several one and two day filmmaking and photography workshops for children and young adults. These are always great fun and allow me to plan and implement my own structure and lesson content.
Film, Television and Writing Experience
Whatculture - Lead video editor for the Whatculture film, television and offbeat channel.
Travel Writer – As a freelance travel writer I created video content, photography and articles ranging from literary travel guides to comedy pieces. I freelanced for several companies including Inbali.org, Mpora magazine, Pepper Passport, Online School Center (US), and various other copywriting companies. During this period I also had some travel fiction published with On The Premises magazine and my blog won an award from Wanderlust magazine.
Walking Free – I edited four short documentaries for the charity 'Walking Free'. The theme was rehabilitation from addiction, and the case studies included recovering heroin addicts, alcoholics and violent offenders.
Living Our Best Lives - I was commissioned by the charity 'Taking Action Group' in
Calderdale to create a feature length documentary following six young disabled adults in their transition between teenage and adult life. The documentary is now being used in mentor presentations around the UK.
Freelance Filmmaker and Writer - Since graduating from university in 2011 I have worked as a freelance filmmaker and writer across a broad range of styles and productions.
