About Lucy
I am an Illustration major at OCAD University looking to help aspiring artists learn new techniques and explore new mediums. I have considerable knowledge of drawing theory, watercolour, acrylic, guache, and water-soluble oil paints, as well as methods to train your 'artists' eye, how to design colour palettes and create pleasing compositions.

Drawing and painting well is primarily a matter of thinking and seeing in a way that allows you to translate real objects onto a 2d surface. No artists has ever perfectly trained their eye, and their are many techniques to help artists draw, and subsequently paint, with greater observation and efficiency. Aside from developing observational skills, I will teach you colour theory and different techniques that can create different aesthetics. With these foundations, motor skills and style are a matter of practice.
I believe learning should be fun and student lead; I am passionate about art and eager to pass along everything I have learned (and am still learning), but the main consideration as to what and how I teach is the student's interests and goals. Everyone creates art for different reasons and in different ways, My goal is to challenge my students so that they grow, not frustrate them. I consider the three foundations of art to be sight (seeing real objects as shapes and colours), critique (identifying how artists apply different techniques, and articulate why something works/does not work in an art piece, etc), and application, the creation of art. Depending on the students learning style and goals, these vary in importance.
